Lake Havasu City Aquatic Center Green Infrastructure

The Aquatic Center had a water problem. And surprisingly, it had nothing to do with their pool! Like City Hall, their impervious parking lot was pooling water. The resulting issues were costly to repeatedly fix.

In addition to the parking lot pooling issue, the Aquatic Center had another issue. With the Aquatic Center located so close to Lake Havasu (the Colorado River), all of the water running off the pavement flowed unfiltered directly into the lake. These two issues together created costly repairs and poor water quality. Green Infrastructure could fix both of them.

The Aquatic Center Green Infrastructure plan involved planting native landscape to absorb the excess water runoff. Once the roots and soil absorb the water, they will naturally filter the water on its way to the river. This not only manages the storm water, but increases water quality as well.
